Get Unspun is a free, non-commercial, non-partisan website that explains how UK politics works. The information is offered in good faith and carefully sourced, but it is general information, not advice, and it comes with no guarantee. Read it, link to it, learn from it — just do not rely on it as professional advice or pass it off as another’s work. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

Who runs Get Unspun

Get Unspun is published by the Get Unspun project. The formal operating entity is being registered; its legal name and registered address will be added here once that is complete. Questions can be sent to [email protected].

Get Unspun is a non-partisan public-information project. It is not a registered political party, a candidate, or a registered campaigner; it runs no paid political advertising; and it backs no party, candidate or outcome — so it carries no statutory election imprint. This identification is provided as good practice, not because the law requires one.

Accepting these terms

Using getunspun.co.uk means accepting these terms and the cookies and on-device storage explainer. Anyone who does not accept them should not use the site. No account is needed and none can be created — using the site is simply reading it.

What Get Unspun is — and is not

Get Unspun exists so a reader can find the facts and decide for themselves. It provides:

• plain-English explainers on how UK politics, elections and institutions work;
• sourced summaries at three reading depths, each citing where the facts come from;
• occasional interactive explainers built on cited, published datasets.

Get Unspun is not legal, financial, electoral or professional advice, and it never tells anyone how to vote. It is general educational information. Anyone needing advice for a particular situation should consult a suitably qualified professional or an official source.

Accuracy and no warranty

Every explainer is researched, sourced and checked, and mistakes are corrected promptly when found (see “Editorial standards and corrections” below). Even so, the site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, so far as the law allows. In particular, Get Unspun does not warrant that the content is complete, current or free from error, or that the site will be available without interruption. Politics moves quickly: a figure that was right when published may be overtaken by events.

Limitation of liability

So far as the law permits, Get Unspun and its publisher are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the site or its content — including any decision taken, or not taken, on the basis of it.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Any rights a visitor has under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other consumer protection law are not affected.

Intellectual property

The wording, design, code and branding of Get Unspun belong to its publisher and are protected by copyright. Reading the site, linking to it, and quoting short passages with clear attribution to Get Unspun are all welcome. Republishing whole explainers, or presenting the site’s content as one’s own, is not permitted without written permission. (An open reuse licence, such as Creative Commons Attribution, is under consideration; until it is confirmed in the decision register, all rights are reserved.)

Facts are free, but the material Get Unspun cites — reports, datasets, quotations and images produced by others — remains the property of those original owners and is used only to source and explain. Their rights are unaffected by these terms.

Acceptable use

Get Unspun may be used for any lawful, personal, non-commercial purpose. It must not be used to:

• break any law, or infringe anyone’s rights;
• copy the site wholesale, scrape it at scale, or place unreasonable load on it;
• attempt to disrupt or probe the site, or gain unauthorised access to it or its infrastructure;
• misrepresent the site, alter its content, or republish it as another’s work.

Links to other sites

Get Unspun cites and links to external sources so readers can check the facts at first hand. Those sites are not controlled by Get Unspun, and a link is not an endorsement. Get Unspun is not responsible for the content, accuracy or privacy practices of any external site; visiting them is at the visitor’s own risk.

Editorial standards and corrections

Get Unspun is strictly non-partisan: it describes, attributes and sources, and never tells anyone how to vote. Contested claims are attributed to whoever makes them. Errors matter here more than anywhere — a correction can be requested at [email protected], and confirmed mistakes are fixed promptly and, where significant, noted openly.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated from time to time — for example if the site adds analytics or a new kind of feature. The version published on this page, with the “last updated” date shown above, is the one that applies. Continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from use of the site, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
